چکیده

Stuart Wilson, Amin Lane, Josephine Oliver, and Christopher Stanley The detection of prion diseases in animals and their diagnosis and treatment in human medicine is an area of recent intense scientific investigation. Tests are now available for brain tissue testing, and rapid progress is expected in the development of improved diagnostic technologies for detecting the presence of the infectious agent (the prion, a protein particle lacking nucleic acid) in the blood of infected animals and in donated human blood. A blood test for prion diseases in animals, when it is developed, will be an important element in the control and eradication of these diseases. And, of course, a test for donated blood will ensure the safety of the blood supply in human healthcare.

Polymorphism of Prion Protein Gene (PRNP) in Iranian Holstein and Two Local Cattle Populations (Golpayegani and Sistani) of Iran

Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) is a fatal infectious neurodegenerative disease in cattle, characterized by the accumulation of an abnormal, proteaseresistant prion protein (PrPSc) in the brain. BSE is similar to scrapie in sheep and goats and Creuzfeldt-Jakob disease in humans. Susceptibility in cattle hasbeen shown to be under the influence of two polymorphic locations, which are...

Protein conformation and diagnostic tests: the prion protein.

BACKGROUND Many clinical diagnostic tests depend on the accurate detection and quantification of proteins and peptides and their functions. Alterations of protein structure, and the resulting consequences on dynamics, can affect the outcome of laboratory tests. These changes can be a result of mutations, other in vivo factors, or even the experimental conditions of the diagnostic test. APPROA...

Capillary electromigration based techniques in diagnostics of prion protein caused diseases.

Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies are a group of fatal neurodegenerative diseases with long incubation time. This group includes Creutzfeld-Jakob disease, kuru, scrapie, chronic wasting disease, and bovine spongiform encephalopathy. Sensitive and specific detection of abnormal prion protein as "a source agent" of the above-mentioned diseases in blood could provide a diagnostic test or a...

Introducing critical residues in the human prion protein and its Asp 178 Asn mutant by molecular dynamics simulation

The molecular dynamics (MD) simulation method is used to assess structural details for humanprion protein (hereafter PrPN) and its Asp178 Asn mutant (hereafter PrPm) which causes fatalfamilial insomnia disease. The results reveal that the flexibility and instability increase in PrPmcould be related to specific amino acids exposed to the solvent. Solvation free energy of PrPm is 20kjmot1nni2 mor...

گزارش یک مورد بیماری کروتزفلد ژاکوب بدنبال حجامت (گزارش موردی)

Background: Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (C-JD) is a rare disorder characterized with rapidly progressive mental decline, myoclonic jerk and finally death. The transmissible pathogen for this disease is a proteinaceous infectious particle termed prion. The prion protein is encoded by a gene (designated as PRNP) on the short arm chromosome 20.This disorder is diagnosed based on clinical findings, c...
